Asbestos Removal

PROAS Asbestos Removal was recently contacted to remove asbestos cement sheeting from the eaves, external walls, wet areas and sun room of a residential property in Bentleigh.

Asbestos cement sheets are made up of a mixture of cement and asbestos and are commonly found in residential properties developed before the 1980s.

PROAS first set up an asbestos exclusion zone and decontamination unit, so as to prevent any inadvertent access by members of the public and to allow only workers to access the area. In each area, we wet down the asbestos to minimise the release of asbestos fiber and dust into the air. After doing this, we removed the asbestos sheeting from the areas and put the sheets into two asbestos bags.

After the removal of the asbestos, the areas were cleaned so as to prevent any contamination from the asbestos. We used a HEPA vacuum to clean the dust and debris from the areas. In order to be sure that the area was properly clean, PROAS wet the areas dried them and then dusted the areas again.

After finishing the cleaning process, an independent hygienist came and inspected the areas to make sure that they were properly cleaned and free of asbestos.  After the inspection, the independent hygienist gave the area the all clear, and the property was free from any asbestos contamination.

The time it takes it remove asbestos does differ depending on each project, this property took 2 days to complete, however, in some instances the removal process can take up to 12 weeks.
